Motion M-31: Spending for Mental Health Services

Mental health is health. At a time when Canada is experiencing a mental health and substance use crisis, access to mental health care is more important than ever. However, the federal government continues to underfund mental health care, at a rate far lower than France, the UK, and Germany. The social and economic harm caused by Canada falling behind is tremendous.

That’s why MP Johns introduced Motion M-31. This motion would call for Canada to increase mental health spending to 12 per cent of overall healthcare spending, working with each province to get us there. Investing in Canadians’ mental health is a nation-building project. We should fund it like one.
