M-35: Federal Operational Support for BC Ferries
For Vancouver Islanders, ferries are essential marine highways that connect communities, families, and local economies. However, federal support for BC Ferries is severely lacking. According to the Library of Parliament, due to outdated funding formulas struck up to 80 years ago while Vancouver Island had half its current population, BC Ferries receives $1.63 in federal supports per passenger, compared to $291 for Atlantic ferry systems.
That’s why I introduced Motion M-35, which calls on the federal government to provide increased, stable, long-term funding to BC Ferries. It is time for Ottawa to stop treating Vancouver Islanders like an afterthought. Fair ferry funding now!
