Thanking Canada's Veterans
As NDP Critic for Veterans, Gord has fought to ensure veterans have the supports they deserve, including:
- Tabling multiple bills in the 45th Parliament to honour and respect our veterans:
- C-252, which would establish a Peacetime Service and Sacrifice Memorial Day to honour those who lost their lives serving this country in non-combat roles; and
- C-256, which would abolish the "gold digger clause": an archaic law that strips survivor benefits away from the spouses of veterans who marry after the age of 60
- Urging the government to keep their promise and properly recognize, and provide health benefits to, Persian Gulf and Afghan War veterans
- Pushing to clear backlogs for benefit applications and increase funding for veterans needing assistance.
- Receiving unanimous consent for a motion to allow unspent funding for veterans to carry over from one fiscal year to the next.
- Helping to secure funding for a pilot project for injured veterans at Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences.
- Fighting for financial support for Legions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
